Believe It or Not: Carrey to Fill Shoes as 'Ripley'
originally posted November 28, 2005
Director Tim Burton (The Corpse Bride) and actor Jim Carrey (Fun With Dick and Jane) are in early negotiations to work together on action-adventure Believe It or Not!, which is loosely based on the life of Robert Ripley, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project will follow the exploits of Ripley, a sports cartoonist who ran out of ideas and turned to the world of the strange and unusual. Ripley became a larger-than-life personality in the '30s and '40s, well-known for going around the world looking for oddities and getting into adventures while doing so.
The script, by Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander, who worked together on Burton's Ed Wood and Carrey's Man on the Moon.
The studio expects to begin production on the tentpole (and possible franchise) in London in October for a late 2007 release.
