Strategy and Mission Statement
Everyone knows a successful marketing strategy is imperative to success. The branding of The Movie Insider is rooted in the "insider" ideal. Our mission is "to take movie fans and other entertainment aficionados behind the scenes by offering free, quality and up-to-date content about upcoming movies, some of which may be years away from coming to theaters".
Historical Background
The Movie Insider was first launched on AOL Hometown in July 1999, by its owner and founder, Brian Renner, who was age 13 at the time. Then, the mission of the website was "to keep you and everyone else up to date about the world of movies". Not long after, the website moved to Yahoo! Geocities, followed by its first domain name "movie-insider.com" in early 2000. Soon after an ownership debacle regarding the aforementioned domain name, Renner purchased "themovieinsider.com" in early September 2001. Since 2001, the website has gone through numerous recreations and redesigns. Many are available for review by using the Internet Archive's WayBack Machine. In the midst of doing homework, Renner begin e-mailing studio publicists and other notable PR contacts in attempt to access press screenings, receive screeners the latest releases and other opportunities for a team of writers throughout the United States. Renner went on to personally establish industry contacts with all the major and independent studios, as well as numerous third-party and contracted marketing firms, such as Electric Artists, Special Ops Media, Drill Team Media, Crew Creative, among many others.
