'King Kong' Sets Universal DVD Record
Universal Studios Home Entertainment has set a new sales record with King Kong, which sold 6.5 million DVDs in the first week of release.
That adds up to more than $100 million in addition to worldwide box office grosses of $550 million, The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.
The film has become "one of Universal's biggest and most successful cinematic triumphs ever," Universal Studios Home Entertainment President Craig Kornblau said.
The only DVD to sell bigger and faster in 2006 so far has been Warner Home Video's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which sold 5 million DVDs on the first day alone and racked up sales of nearly 9 million DVDs in six days.
