Olivia Wilde, who starred in Turistas and is a series regular on Fox's medical drama "House", has signed on to star in Tron 2.0, the sequel to the 1982 Disney cult classic being directed by Joseph Kosinski, according to Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. The original, about a programmer thrust into a computer and forced to fight in games he helped create, is remembered for its sci-fi gladiator-style battles and groundbreaking special effects.

'Star Trek' will be simultaneously released to both IMAX and conventional theatres worldwide on May 8, 2009.

A fifth 'Terminator' movie is being developed by Halcyon Company, with Terminator Salvation director McG, the company's executives Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek announced at the Dubai International Film Festival, Daily Variety reported.

Summit Entertainment announced today that filmmaker Chris Weitz ('The Golden Compass') has been hired to direct the second film in the studio's Twilight film franchise. The film, New Moon, is based on the second book in author Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster book series.

Jack Black, who starred in the summer hits Kung Fu Panda (now on DVD!) and Tropic Thunder, will toplone a new version of Gulliver's Travels for 20th Century Fox. The latest take on the Jonathan Swift classic will be directed by Rob Letterman from a script adapted by Joe Stillman, with a rewrite by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall).

Warner Bros. Pictures moving ahead with plans to do a prequel to the Will Smith starrer I Am Legend, according to Daily Variety. The plan is for Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, with Francis Lawrence returning to direct. Akiva Goldsman and his Weed Road banner will produce with James Lassiter, Smith’s partner in Overbrook Entertainment.

Time Warner Inc. announced today the consolidation of its filmed entertainment businesses, Warner Bros. Entertainment and New Line Cinema. As part of the consolidation, New Line will be operated as a unit of Warner Bros. New Line will maintain separate development, production, marketing, distribution and business affairs operations, but will closely integrate and coordinate those functions with Warner Bros.

No Country for Old Men emerged as the Best Picture winner, and the film's directors, Ethan and Joel Coen took home awards for Achievement in Directing. Daniel Day-Lewis, Javier Bardem, Marion Cotillard and Tilda Swinton triumphed in the acting categories.

Universal Pictures announced a March 14th release date for Doomsday, the new sci-fi horror movie from director Neil Marshall (The Descent). Marshall also wrote the film, about a killer virus that necessitates the quarantining of an entire country.

New Line Cinema is re-releasing its hit musical comedy Hairspray for a special one-week return engagement on January 4-10 exclusively at the Laemmle's Sunset-5 theater in Los Angeles and at the Landmark's Sunshine Cinema theater in New York.

Wow... this was a bit unexpected. In a surprise announcement, Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have reached agreement to jointly make J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, a planned prequel to the blockbuster trilogy The Lord of the Rings. New Line, which has had a string of box office flops, needs it more than Jackson, who has plenty of projects already on his slate, including TinTin, Temeraire and The Lovely Bones.

The title of the new Indiana Jones adventure, now in production under the direction of Steven Spielberg, is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it was revealed today by actor Shia LaBeouf.

Justin Timberlake, who voiced a character in Shrek the Third, is the latest star to join the cast of the new Mike Myers' comedy The Love Guru. Timberlake will play Jacques Grande, a professional hockey player, alongside the previously announced Jessica Alba, Romany Malco and Verne Troyer.

Director Greg Mottola, who directed the current box office champ Superbad, will next helm Adventureland, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mottola also wrote the script for the movie, to which Jesse Eisenberg ("The Squid and the Whale") is attached to star. Production is set to begin in the fall in Pittsburgh.

Director Len Wiseman, who last helmed Bruce Willis' Live Free or Die Hard, is in negotiations to shoot the remake of Escape From New York for New Line Cinema. 300 star Gerard Butler will topline as anti-hero Snake Plissken, a role played by Kurt Russell in John Carpenter's 1981 film.

There were some very lucky fans this weekend. Comic-book geeks at the Wizard World convention in Chicago over the weekend were treated to the first look at footage from The Dark Knight, director Christopher Nolan's much-anticipated "Batman" sequel, the WizardUniverse site reported.

Karen Allen is joining the cast of the upcoming fourth "Indiana Jones" movie, reprising her role as Marion Ravenwood, it was announced recently at the Comic-Con International. Allen was last seen in the franchise in the first installment, 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

The director and writer of the hit DreamWorks thriller Disturbia will reteaming for the long gestating Y: The Last Man, an adaptation of the acclaimed Vertigo comic book. D.J. Caruso is developing and directing the New Line Cinema project, with Carl Ellsworth (Red Eye) on board to write.
