Wilde Enters Disney's 'Tron' Sequel

Olivia Wilde, who starred in Turistas and is a series regular on Fox's medical drama "House", has signed on to star in Tron 2.0, the sequel to the 1982 Disney cult classic being directed by Joseph Kosinski, according to Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. The original, about a programmer thrust into a computer and forced to fight in games he helped create, is remembered for its sci-fi gladiator-style battles and groundbreaking special effects.

Weitz to Direct Summit's 'New Moon'

Summit Entertainment announced today that filmmaker Chris Weitz ('The Golden Compass') has been hired to direct the second film in the studio's Twilight film franchise. The film, New Moon, is based on the second book in author Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster book series.

Black Embarks on 'Gulliver's Travels'

Jack Black, who starred in the summer hits Kung Fu Panda (now on DVD!) and Tropic Thunder, will toplone a new version of Gulliver's Travels for 20th Century Fox. The latest take on the Jonathan Swift classic will be directed by Rob Letterman from a script adapted by Joe Stillman, with a rewrite by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall).

Warner Plans 'I Am Legend' Prequel

Warner Bros. Pictures moving ahead with plans to do a prequel to the Will Smith starrer I Am Legend, according to Daily Variety. The plan is for Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, with Francis Lawrence returning to direct. Akiva Goldsman and his Weed Road banner will produce with James Lassiter, Smith’s partner in Overbrook Entertainment.

Time Warner Inc. announced today the consolidation of its filmed entertainment businesses, Warner Bros. Entertainment and New Line Cinema. As part of the consolidation, New Line will be operated as a unit of Warner Bros. New Line will maintain separate development, production, marketing, distribution and business affairs operations, but will closely integrate and coordinate those functions with Warner Bros.

Jackson to Produce 'The Hobbit'
