Brooks, who has directed only five films during his career and hasn't helmed one since 2004's Spanglish, will next team up with Reese Witherspoon on How Do You Know for Sony Pictures, according to Daily Variety. Witherspoon was set to start lensing an Untitled Cameron Crowe Project for Sony in February, but that film has been pushed to July, leaving an opening in the actress' schedule.

The DreamWorks project revolves around the riots at the Democratic National Convention in 1968 in Chicago, and is a high priority for the newly configured studio, which has been "freed" from Paramount Pictures and now has a distribution deal with Universal Pictures.

Darabont recently exited the project, which will star Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler and is a said to be a "priority" for startup production shingle The Film Department.
