Stardust (2007)

Stardust visually dazzles but its sexist garbage threw my well earned adoration out the window. When will women be good enough?

A forbidden encounter in a traveling witch's carnival carriage creates a son for an unsuspecting slave girl (Kate Magowan). Unable to raise him, she sends Tristen (Charlie Cox) off to his father, Dunstan (Nathaniel Parker), in the land across the wall; the village of Wall. Soon Tristen is a grown man with romantic ambitions of his own. The woman Tristen is courting, Victoria (Sienna Miller) promises to marry him if he brings her a star. He knows nothing of his father's romp in the forbidden land across the wall that is guarded at all times. When he is old enough, his father shows him what his mother left in the basket with him when he was delivered; a magic candle that would take him exactly where he thought of going. Meanwhile a star, the North Star (Claire Danes), has been dislodged from her place in the heavens and landed on earth. Tristen lights his candle and at first thinks of his mother but at the last second, his deal with Star pops into his head. He is delivered to Yvaine, the North Star. On the other side of the land, across the wall, are the three terrible witches who have been kept alive and youthful on the body of the last star who fell from the sky. They plot to find the star, kill her, and eat her to regain their vitality. When Tristen realizes he has a star, he binds her to him and requires she come back as a gift for his girl. While all of this is going on, the royal succession is unclear as the king slips away. The king tells his sons that they must find a precious necklace in order to be king. The princes set out to find and kill each other. They don't care who gets in the way. Tristen and Yvaine try to make their way across the land, they are being chased by the witches, and all are being chased by the princes. No, I didn't spoil anything; that is just the first 20 minutes!

Stardust is packed with well known stars. Michelle Pfieffer, Robert De Niro, and Claire Danes, just to name just a few. Michelle Pfieffer is wonderful as the scary cannibal witch. As she loses her youthful appearance, she becomes frightening.
