All six major stars of High School Musical have officially signed on for third and big-screen installment of the popular Disney Channel franchise, The Walt Disney Studios announced Monday.
Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman are returning for High School Musical 3: Senior Year, which is set to be released October 24.
High School Musical 3 sees Troy (Efron) and Gabriella (Hudgens) facing possible separation as they head off in different directions to college. Musical numbers ensue.
Kenny Ortega will direct the film based on a screenplay by Peter Barsocchini, who wrote the scripts for "High School Musical 1" and "High School Musical 2."
"I am the luckiest guy in the world and I know it," Ortega says. "This will be our last time together and I love working with these kids so much. It's going to be great." Filming will begin in the spring.
The cast of unknowns became instant superstars with the tween and teen set, and with the actors demanding a bigger cut of the pie, there were questions whether Disney would be able to close certain deals for HSM3.
Efron inked a reported $3 million dollar deal in November to return as Troy Bolton for the theatrical sequel, while Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale were also said to have received pay hikes.
