Ratatouille (2007)

Animated movies usually go light on the plot and go directly for simplicity because they think children can't understand slightly more complex things. Pixar abandons convention, yet again, and goes deeper with the plot. They put a little more faith in children to be able to understand a plot peppered with complexities. It isn't a labyrinth but it isn't a simple line either. Even though this movie is age appropriate, the complexities will be especially valued by the adult escorts.

The music in Ratatouille is the perfect complement to the film. The music in Ratatouille isn't the star, but the makeup that gives the star a finished look. Who knew there is French chase music? I certainly didn't. Leave it to Pixar, the queen of animation and movie music, to find French pursuit music.

Ratatouille is a funny cake with laughter frosting. There were times when I wished I had the forethought to put on a pair Depends because my pee made attempts at escape. It is difficult to make me laugh out loud, I'm a comedy snob. This movie made me laugh like crazy and from beginning to end. I love it when something as ridiculous as a boy being driven by a rodent could be not only believable, but bladder busting. I love that a snobby food critic is so cryptic and scary that he seems like he could make flowers wilt. I love that they made active use of the 'camera” to create additional comedic value. There is a scene at the end of the movie where you meet the evil food critic's mother that was incredibly brilliant because they used the 'camera' in such a surprising and delightful way.

I could go on with tons of other words, but the only one you need is: YES!
